International Peace Day 2021

Under the banner of the Peace ACT, ACT CIC acknowledged International Peace Day on the 21st September 2021. This event included workshops, talks and information about what is happening within our communities. We discussed peace building, community resilience and how to deal with the trauma of youth violence in our communities. We spoke to various community organisations who are on the frontlines of building peace, who they are, what they have been doing as an organisation and their future plans towards bringing about peace within our communities.

We welcomed special guests Craig Pinkney, Criminologist, Urban Youth Specialist and CEO for Solve: The Centre for Youth Violence and Conflict CIC) for a Workshop discussing Social Disorganisation and how to rebuild community resilience: How do we deal with the impact of gangs, youth violence and criminal exploitation within our community?

We also had a workshop from Dr Martin Glynn Internationally renowned public speaker, educator, criminologist, with over 3 decades of experience working in criminal justice, public health, and educational settings. Dr Martin discussed ‘Youth Violence: How do people grow through trauma?’
